Dan and Nashville Star

In my search to find my rightful place in the music world, I have tried many avenues. A few years ago, the very popular reality talent show, "Nashville Star" was having auditions near me in Huntington, WV. I have never thought of myself as the next "Garth Brooks" but, I thought, "what the heck" It can't hurt. So, Nancy and I went to the local western wear store and bought me a boisterous western shirt and big old cowboy hat to go with it. (PHOTO).

The rules stated that, you had to sing one of their songs and have an original song ready, just in case you went on to the next round. Well, I just knew I'd go on so, I chose the Vince Gill tune, "Nobody answered When I Called Your Name". It was not my best choice, but I thought, "Vince...tenor, Dan...tenor...YES! I also had my original country song, "That's Love" ready to go, it was the next BIG country hit!

Off we went to the Huntington Mall in Baurborsville, WV. It was early morning but my, the crowd was gathered! I waited in line for hours for my chance to prove to the world that I cound sing my way into the Country Music world! They called my name, I went up there, gave it all I had in me and the judges chatted and waited and whispered to each other then.... "Mr Keeton, you can go home. Your not what we are looking for". WHAT! Are you kidding me? And just about the time it hit me, it hit the crowd too! "Ohhh, Awwww"...they seemed more disappointed than I was.

So, I went home, took my hat and my shirt and placed them in the closet. And every now and then, I go and look at them, just to remind me that I am not what the world is looking for.
